2008 seems to be the year that everyone’s flashing their cash, I bought an iphone, Tripadvisor bought Holidaywatchdog.com
Its also no secret that at the back end of 2007 TUI bought Holidays-Uncovered.
Now for people not involved in travel it might be hard to understand that a lot of travel traffic is controlled by a number of key players, in retail for example its completely different, there are hundreds of affiliates doing very very well. In travel there are niches that affiliates can exploit but to really make your mark you need to build something a bit special.
Both Holidays-Uncovered and Holidaywatchdog did this. Both massive sites, partnered with leading travel brands, taking top line commissions from all and sending massive amounts of sales on a daily basis to merchants.
So it makes sense that they got bought. How much? God knows. But I wish the best to them all as I wonder who’s going to bet bought next.
