Well last week was a bit slow on the blogging front, but busy on other fronts! The week in shorts – I have cravings for a house, everyone in travel is loaded, domains are fun & auctions are weird, affiliates are great and work is hard!
Every now and again I get a craving to move out. It makes sense that if I do move out I move work-wards and cut my commute. Sadly work is in the posh side of Sheffield and its expensive. Solution? I’ve decided the future is some sort of swanky inner city flat. Also just seen a programme on this ‘credit crunch’ thing that we’re supposed to be experiencing and prices are coming down. So over the next few months I recon ill be keeping an eye on things, probably no drastic moves but would like to think im in within the next year – time to start saving!
Everyone knows travels a fairly rich sector, you don’t see travel sites selling for a couple of hundred thousand – its always millions. Expedia seem to have this desire to own everything, big travel companies are merging and absorbing other companies left right and centre. TUI top level management are jumping ship to work at Travelsupermarket.
With all the talk of bid sales and domain value of late I’ve been keeping my eye on some domain auction sites. Its quite interesting to watch, see how far people will go. The only domain I had a punt at over the last week was skirts.co.uk and I bid £3,000, it went for £3,050! If I was serious about it id have gone higher, and im sure whoever I was up against had a much higher bid set as their max. Anyway ill keep having a dabble, not as big a stakes unless its something that really takes my fancy though. I don’t have time to build sites anymore so buying some half baked ones that have a good history seems the way forward.
Affiliates! Alpha have recently launched flights, all our affiliates at the moment are hotel. We get next to zero holiday / flight traffic. So, out I go, mission flight affiliate and low and behold I find myself a couple. Remember we’ve not done the whole flight thing, we’re winging it, plying it by ear (or at least I am). Best way to find out is get stuck in, get feedback from people that have been running flight sites for several years. And ill tell you what, it works. These guys are amazing, the feedback and input they are willing to give is fantastic, and I truly believe within the next 12 months alpha will have one of the strongest holiday affiliate programmes going, ontop of being the strongest accommodation only affiliate programme running to date
Well, kind of following on from the above, works got hard. Well not hard as in it’s a struggle, if you know what your doing any job is easy (or at least that’s my view), its just time! Hence why my weekly round up is a day late and im currently offering consultancy over MSN to an affiliate looking to get started with apartment sales. Anyway, lots of new things coming with alpha over the next couple of months feature wise & site wise so keep watching!
