I’ve just seen a post over at the A4U forum basically asking the masses ‘who should I promote’ and I’ve replied but thought id give a bit of a ‘how I make my choices’ sort of view on here.
Ill use travel as an example as its what I know fairly well now, and the person on the forum was asking what hotel provider to promote on their site. Now instantly this strikes me as someone who maybe doesn’t know the sector too well, as in travel its never simple so a question like ‘who should I promote’ in my mind raises at a bare minimum raises another question – what area are you promoting?
Im sure this exists in other sectors too but this is where affiliates can use price comparison site to their advantage. Go onto one and do a search, someone might have told you that You Travel are really good – and ill be honest they are but if your site is pushing New York hotels then they don’t have any. See whos competitive in the market your pushing and see if they have affiliate programmes. Anyone whos been involved in online marketing for any time will tell you that price is a major factor to a merchant paying 20% commission may look great when viewing them in your network login, top of the tack for commission but if their product just isn’t competitive against other merchants in the sector then users wont buy – 20% of no sales isn’t much
There are comparison sites for pretty much anything these days so whatever your promoting you can check and see who you really need to be featuring in order to offer your user a good choice.
