My background is as a retail affiliate, clothes, gadgets, gifts that sort of thing. So this time of year I basically come home, check the networks, smile and go to the pub. What id like to think about and possibly get some feedback on is how other affiliates treat peaks and troughs and if anyone’s really made it and covered all bases.

At #20! Not bad going for a small company based in ‘the north’. If you don’t buy the Sunday Times, and I don’t normally theres a small supplement in it called Fast Track which shows Britain’s 100 fastest growing companies and oh yes, Alpharooms sits proud at number 20.

The past few days down at the ExCel centre, The Fox and the Novotel hotel bar have just been amazing. The even is the biggest and best organised I’ve been to and everyone involved really made it what it was and it’s a huge leap forward for the industry to be able to pull something like that off as well as it was.

Its now only 5 days away and im really looking forward to it, trains all booked and im going down on the Wednesday and get into London at about 6 then heading across to the Novotel London Excel where im staying and where the pre event networking party is.

A recent post by Chris (HW Techie) describes one of their (eStuff Ltd’s) latest success stories in a niche that many people overlook just because it is seen as ‘an extra’ and not the main product but as they have done they have made this niche their own and proven that there is good money to be had.

This post is wrote in reply so to speak to a few other posts I’ve seen of late from affiliates and will hopefully give affiliates a merchant point of view on the industry it’s a bit long but I hope you will take time to read it. Remember that I am both an affiliate and an affiliate manager, without affiliate marketing and my affiliate position I would never hold the job I hold today, and I am 100% behind the company I work for, so feel that I can give a very unbiased view, on all accounts.

Again a question I’ve seen many new merchants ask, and probably a question that doesn’t have an answer. Every affiliate is unique. If I launched an affiliate programme and offered an incentive to win a trip to Lapland for 4 people this December im fairly confident I know the 2/3 affiliates who would go for it, and I mean make an effort and really push the programme.

For years I’ve read posts on forums from people wanting to know what the best network is, where the best affiliates are and always wanting the cheapest option an how to go about setting up as a merchant. I’ve been given the task of preparing a new merchant launch so thought id put together a mini guide to, hopefully help any future merchants seeking a bit of advice.
