This was announced last week and the long and short of it is that google who previously restricted ads from being triggered on trademarked terms other than the trademark holders ad are scrapping the whole thing.

Im bored of this now, constantly seeing people blatantly breaking PPC policies and getting away with it so as I come across it (im not even looking for it just trying to add some links to my own sites) im going to post it on here. Might not make a blind bit of difference but I know the sort of questions that get raised merchant side when this eventually gets found out and I can see things like this damaging the reputation of the industry and really holding it back.

Well I lasted 7 days and at about half 9 this morning I received a call from Nick at TradeDoubler to question my activity. How it was handled wasn’t a typical case as you’d imagine (with the whole public blog detailing what I was doing) but Nick did tell me how they would handle a case like this which I did find re-assuring.

Well its day one in the big rule breaking house, sorry. Anyway My ads been running for the most of the day, some other affiliate seems to be having a bit of a stab on my terms but we seem to have reached a bit of a mutual agreement and the ads are showing fairly evenly. Didn’t even have to do anything!

A mini update as I only started breaking the rules for a particular merchant an hour or so ago. From this campaign sales have now been made and commission generated, the brand is slightly more popular than I anticipated so I’ve upped my daily limit to $60 which I imagine will be gone by midday tomorrow. If I was going this for profit id have stuck it to $300 knowing full well id be making more, but as I don’t expect to be paid for these sales $60 a day is enough for me to lose!

I’ve gone rouge. I have just this minute set up a PPC campaign that purposefully breaks a programmes terms and conditions – why? To see what happens. Id expect within a day or so the merchant to notice, knowing the merchant side of the network that this merchant is on the merchant will have access to my email address. Will they contact me to caution me?

Following on from my post yesterday about PPC policies that get ignored I decided to do a bit more research, dig around and see what I could find. See if it is just a few programmes and see which affiliates are doing it.

Talking purely as an affiliate now, most affiliate programmes at the moment have PPC rules in place. Now I have no problem with these, if someone says don’t bid on the brand name I wont, someone says don’t use our display URL fine. If I don’t like these rules or think they are too imposing then I just wont promote the programme.

Inspired by a post on the A4U Forum there’s a thread about Easyspace a merchant on the DGM network offering up the right to bid on their brand name through PPC engines as a prize for whoever can deliver the highest volume of sales without using brand name bidding.
